Pumpkin Birthday

I'm finally done with Raven's 1st birthday invitations! These have been a labor of love. I can't wait to send these out. Now on to the decorations! :)

DIY Glitter Night Light

I've been seeing super cute glitter Mason jar night lights on Pinterest lately and I wanted to try making one for Raven's room. I didn't have a Mason jar handy but I did have a giant salsa jar to use. I could not believe how easy it was to make. Now I want to glitter everything!!

Here's what you need to get started:
    1.    A clean jar
    2.    Floor cleaner (I used Pledge floor care)
    3.    Extra fine glitter
    4.    A LED light or battery operated tea light

First, pour the floor cleaner into the jar. Make sure to coat the entire jar. Then let the excess liquid drip out. (Ozzy wanted to help)

Then pour in your glitter and coat the inside of the jar. I slowly spinned the jar on it’s side to get an even coat.

Next shake out the excess glitter and let the jar dry. Even though my jar is huge it didn’t take very much glitter at all. For extra fanciness, I made a raven decal and applied it to the outside of the jar

For the last step I put velcro on the inside of the jar lid and velcro on the bottom of my LED light. I also added a little ribbon around the neck of the jar.

I think it fits right in with the rest of her decor. Now I'm off to glitter everything else in the house.

A Doll for Raven

I wanted to try to make a small doll for Raven. One that she could carry around that wasn't too big and fit in her hands well. I'm also not great at sewing, so it couldn't be too complicated. I decided to try printing a doll design on fabric and sewing it together.

I started off by using SpoonFlower's doll template and editing it in Photoshop. I tried to make her look more like Raven and I separated the front and the back of the doll so I could print each part on it's own 8.5x11 piece of fabric.

Then I cut out two 8.5 x 11 sheets of freezer paper, ironed it on to white cotton fabric and cut out the fabric.

I loaded one fabric sheet into the back tray of my inkjet printer and printed the front of the doll then repeated that again for the back of the doll. Once she was printed out I waited about 30 minutes for the fabric to dry so I wouldn't smudge the ink. Then I cut her out and removed the freezer paper backing.

Placing right sides together, I sewed around the doll, leaving a small opening on her side so I could turn her right side out and stuff her. Her legs were the most difficult to turn right side out since they're so skinny. I used a crochet hook to help get them out and that worked great.

After she was stuffed, I hand-sewed her side opening and she was done! I think Raven likes her new friend. I'm pretty sure she's telling her all her baby secrets because she likes to talk to her a lot.

Welcome!

Welcome to my site! I thought for my first post I'll tell you a little bit about me. One of my favorite podcast, One Bad Mother, always asks their guests, 'Who lives in your house?' Well, in my house there's my Devon Rex cats, Pixel and Ozzy, my awesome husband, and my sweet baby, Raven, who is currently 8 months old. (ugh! She's not a tiny baby any more!)

This is Pixel. She's my first baby.

My background is in graphic design and art direction but a few years ago I left the corporate world to pursue a career in personal training. I absolutely loved it and all of my clients but when I had my baby I decided to take sometime off to be with her. I still love being creative and working out. I hope to use this blog as a place to document all my crafty endeavors, motherhood and my every day life.
