Logo Love

As a graphic designer, one of my favorite things to do is logo design. It allows you as the designer to help set the tone of the company and tell your client's whole story in just one image. 

Recently my friend Paige needed a logo for her new DIY endeavor, Savvy's Corner, and I jumped at the chance to help her create her brand. Paige transforms old furniture into beautiful statement pieces, creates one-of-a-kind home decor and comes up with the best DIY projects. 

Before getting started, I looked through her portfolio of work for inspiration. 

Her work is just amazing so it wasn't hard to create a beautiful logo to represent her company. 

I had so much fun coming up with designs for Paige and she was the easiest client I've ever worked with.

When life give you tile..

...Make coasters! :) Last week I went to my local salvage store and found tons of great 4 1/4" ceramic tiles for super cheap! I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them but I knew I couldn't pass them up. 

I decided I could make some awesome tile coasters for a friend. I've got four designs made that I want to put on them, but of course getting them done during Raven's nap times can be challenging to say the least. So, for now here's the first one I got done and all the steps it took to make it so you can make your own too.

1. First, I loaded my design into Cricut Design Space and scaled it to just the right size for my tile.

2. Next, I cut my design out of the two colors of permanent vinyl I wanted. I had the cut setting set to Vinyl.

3. After it was all cut out I weeded out the vinyl. Because the letters in the middle of the design are so thin I took my time, being carful not to accidentally pull any up. For intricate designs I like to use a needle to weed out the little parts.

4. Then I applied the green vinyl part of the design to the coaster using clear contact paper and then the pink.

5. The last thing I did was cut out a piece of felt the same size of the tile and glued it to the back. If you have cork, that would work too.

Brush Pen Calligraphy

I've recently fallen in love with brush pen calligraphy. I've been following some amazing people on Instagram whose calligraphy skills are stunning. Their art has inspired me to pick up a pen and try it out for myself. I will say, my every day handwriting looks like that of a deranged serial killer. I've never been that girl with cute handwriting, but from just practicing for a few minutes here and there for a few weeks I can really see an improvement in my lettering.

Welcome to my site! I thought for my first post I'll tell you a little bit about me. One of my favorite podcast, One Bad Mother, always asks their guests, 'Who lives in your house?' Well, in my house there's my Devon Rex cats, Pixel and Ozzy, my awesome husband, and my sweet baby, Raven, who is currently 8 months old. (ugh! She's not a tiny baby any more!)

This is Pixel. She's my first baby. 

This is Ozzy. He likes to get into trouble.

My background is in graphic design and art direction but a few years ago I left the corporate world to pursue a career in personal training. I absolutely loved it and all of my clients but when I had my baby I decided to take sometime off to be with her. I still love being creative and working out. I hope to use this blog as a place to document all my crafty endeavors, motherhood and my every day life.
